Amalfi is a vintage European style ceramic table lamp built on the oldest shape in decorative lighting — the urn. A swelling glazed body in deep navy blue and white, lifted on a turned foot and finished with gold detailing at the neck and base, carrying a classic empire shade above it. Getting started

Amalfi takes a couple of minutes to set up. Stand the base where you want it, seat the empire shade onto the harness and hand-tighten the finial until it sits level. Fit a warm-white bulb, plug it in and you are done. Wipe the glazed ceramic with a barely damp cloth and dry it straight away; keep abrasives and solvents away from the gold detailing, and lift the lamp by the body rather than the neck when you move it.

What bulb should I use?

A standard E26 screw bulb. Choose a warm white around 2700K to bring out the navy glaze and the gold detailing — and a dimmable LED if you want to take the light down in the evening.

Each ceramic body is glazed and fired individually, which is why the depth of the navy and the way it meets the white will be a little different on every piece.
