Maru is woven by hand from strips of natural bamboo — and when it lights up, the weave does something no solid shade can: it casts its pattern outward, laying soft latticed shadows across the ceiling and walls while the table below gets a clear warm pool.

Every shade is woven individually, so the rhythm of the strips is never quite identical twice — which is precisely the wabi-sabi point. It hangs as naturally over a dining table as in a corner with a reading chair, anywhere the room wants texture as well as light.

Installation

Maru hardwires to a standard ceiling junction box; set the drop before fixing the canopy. Over a dining table the shade usually sits 75–90 cm above the surface. Switch the circuit off at the breaker first, and use a licensed electrician if unsure.

Questions

How do I keep the bamboo looking good?

Dust it with a dry soft brush along the weave and keep it out of prolonged direct sun, which lightens natural bamboo over time. No polish, no water.

Will mine match the photos exactly?

Closely — but not strand for strand. Each shade is woven by hand, so the weave rhythm and tone vary slightly. That individuality is the point of a handmade piece.

Bamboo is a natural material — variation in colour and weave between pieces is normal and not a defect.
