Sasso is five smooth opal glass pebbles stacked one on the other up a slim black stem — a column of soft light rather than a lamp with a shade. Unlit it reads as a sculpture: milky white forms balanced on a fine black line, anchored by a weighted disc at the floor. Lit, the whole stack turns luminous from the inside and lifts a corner of the room without a single visible bulb.

At 120 cm it sits at the height where a floor lamp is most useful — above a sofa arm, level with a headboard, tall enough to fill a corner but short enough not to fight with the ceiling. The glass does all the diffusing, so there is no glare from any angle, which is why it works as easily beside a bed as beside a reading chair.

Opal glass diffusers

Each pebble is milky opal glass rather than clear, so the light emerges evenly across the whole surface with no hot spot and no visible source.

Dimmable with remote

Brightness and colour temperature adjust from the handset — neutral and bright for reading, low and warm for the end of the evening.

Getting started

Sasso assembles in a few minutes — the stem screws into the weighted base and the glass elements seat onto their fittings in order from the bottom up. Handle the glass with the packing cloth rather than bare hands so the surface stays clean, and hand-tighten only. Then plug it in and pair the remote. No wiring and no tools beyond what is in the box.

Questions

Is it bright enough to read by?

At full brightness on the neutral setting, yes — with the lamp beside rather than behind the chair. It is designed as diffuse ambient light rather than a directional task lamp, so if you read for long stretches you may still want a focused light as well.

Can the individual glass sections be switched separately?

No — the column lights as one, which is what keeps the gradient even from top to bottom. What you can change is the overall level and the colour temperature, both from the remote.

Opal glass is formed individually, so slight differences in wall thickness and in the exact shade of white between elements are normal and are part of how the material is made.
